Event Monitoring (King of Hearts)

Holter Monitoring:


Description:

A Holter monitor is a heart monitor that records your heart rhythm. It is most frequently ordered to evaluate symptoms of palpitations, slow or fast heart rate and fainting spells.

Procedure:

Four electrodes will be placed on your chest that attach lead wires to a recorder that is the size of a pager.
You will be asked to keep a diary of your activities and symptoms while wearing the monitor. The only restriction while wearing the monitor is NO WATER ACTIVITIES such as tub or shower bathing, swimming or water skiing. You will return the next day at the same time with your diary. The data will be scanned and read as soon as possible and returned to the ordering physician.

Preparation:

Clean and dry skin with no oils or lotions.
Wear a two piece outfit which buttons down in the front.

After the test:

The recorder information is downloaded onto a computer and scanned. The information is sent to your physician who will then give you the results.

Event Monitoring (King of Hearts):


Description:

With this monitoring you will be wearing a monitor for two to 4 weeks. This monitor can be removed for periods of time to shower or sleep. You will have a button to press when you feel your symptoms. That "event" will then be phoned in by you to a computer where it will be evaluated.

Procedure:

You will be given an appointment time to come in and get instructions on putting the monitor on and off and sending recordings.

Preparation:

Wear a two piece outfit that buttons down the front.

After the test:

After the monitor is returned, printouts of the recordings will be sent to your physician. He/she will give you the results.
