sinnott Endometrial Ablation

Dr. Scott Sinnott
OB/GYN

What is Endometrial Ablation?
Endometrial ablation offers an effective option for women suffering from heavy or prolonged bleeding during their period. It is often chosen when other medical treatments have failed or are otherwise undesirable. This minimally invasive procedure reduces or eliminates heavy bleeding by using energy to remove the lining of the uterus.

Approximately 90% of women have reduced menstrual flow following endometrial ablation. Many women also experience a reduction in PMS and painful periods. Other benefits women attribute to the procedure are reduced anxiety, greater self-confidence and increased energy.

Endometrial ablation is an outpatient surgical procedure with a quick recovery time so that you can get back to your life sooner. Most women experience no pain after the procedure and can return to regular activities the next day.

Why Is Endometrial Ablation done?
Endometrial ablation is used to control heavy, prolonged menstrual bleeding when:

  • Childbearing is completed
  • Bleeding has not responded to other treatments
  • Other medical problems prevent a hysterectomy
  • The patient prefers not to have a hysterectomy to control bleeding

Who should consider Endometrial Ablation?
You should consider endometrial ablation and talk to your doctor if:

  • Your heavy menstrual bleeding is impacting your life
  • Bleeding is causing you to be anemic and tired
  • You are premenopausal and you do not desire to retain fertility
  • You do not have any other medical problems that require a hysterectomy
