Why do most teens seem to be dissatisfied with their bodies?
Approximately 80% of young girls believe they are overweight. They are dissatisfied with their bodies and are on a diet. It is hard to expect teens to have realistic expectations about their bodies when the media and society express different views. We must provide teens with good information about what is realistic for them. It is important to teach self-satisfaction, self-esteem, and self-love.
What are the most common types of eating disorders?
Eating disorders can affect both teen boys and girls. In some teens with a poor self-image, eating disorders may occur. Anorexia and bulimia are the most common types of eating disorders in teens. People with anorexia have an intense fear of being overweight. Often, a person with anorexia sees herself as overweight in the mirror regardless of her actual weight. When a person has anorexia, she hardly eats at all and the small amount of food that is eaten becomes an obsession. Bulimia is a bit different because the person with bulimia doesn’t avoid eating. Instead, she eats a large amount of food then gets rid of it quickly by vomiting or taking laxatives.
